Saree, Not Sorry (Look #1)

In an attempt to clean up my wardrobe, I dug down to the very depths of it and found a surplus of old Indian formal wear: my saree from graduation, an old blouse that my aunt gave me, and a few more midriff bearing uppers. So I decided to fold them neatly and put them at the back of my closet to gather dust until some distant relative decided to spend a mini fortune to publicly announce that she has trapped a man for herself. But not before trying them all on first. Since then, every crop top I’ve encountered has failed to impress me.

The main problem anyone had with this strange, foreign, “yeh kya pahena hai?” look has been the buttons in the front. Many have gone as far as telling me to buy blouses that don’t button down the front. These very same people have no discomfort buttoning down the front of their shirts.

According to me, the buttons in front add to the authenticity and look extremely appealing. I’d say teasing, almost.

These opinions lead to a weeklong trip to Goa with only saree blouses and bottoms in my bag to put my outfits to test. And the results were pretty damn interesting.

The hypocrisy of the age-old battle between the blouse and crop top being deemed decent and indecent in accordance to the convenience of some old aunty, it makes my blood boil. So here you have it, a green satin blouse (courtesy aforementioned graduation saree) with ripped boyfriend jeans from Zara along with a black belt and these crochet chappals from Lifestyle.
